(CITY OF LONDON, ON) - On October 3, 2018 at approximately 9:15 a.m., an officer of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on the eastbound lanes of Provincial Highway 401, near Highbury Avenue, City of London.
The officer observed smoke from a vehicle and immediately attended to render assistance to the public. Upon arriving on scene, a male was observed walking away from the burning vehicle. The London Fire Department attended to extinguish the fire.
Members of the Middlesex County OPP, OPP West Region Canine Unit (K9), London Police Service (LPS), LPS K9 and OPP Elgin-Middlesex Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) attended the area and a containment was established. The male was later located by uniformed Middlesex OPP officers. LPS K9 conducted an evidence search of the area.
As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old, male, of London, Ontario was arrested and will be facing charges, including Arson, pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).
The Detectives of the OPP Elgin-Middlesex CSCU continue to investigate this event.
