(HOWICK, ON) - A driver from Brockton is facing an Over 80 charge following an early morning traffic stop conducted by police near Wroxeter.
This morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. paramedics from Huron County Paramedic Services came across a sedan that was parked on Belmore Line with a driver inside slumped over the wheel. Upon waking the male he immediately took off in his vehicle.
Shortly after 5:00 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located the car parked at a business in Wroxeter. The driver was found once again sleeping behind the wheel.
Police were able to wake the male and upon speaking with him the odour of alcohol was detected on his breath. A roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
Barry THOMPSON, 48 years of age from Brockton has been charged with Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. He has an upcoming court date scheduled for February 25, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
