(GREY COUNTY, ON) - Warm weather and dry road conditions shouldn't encourage motorists to speed. Excessive speeds reduce the amount of time needed to avoid a collision and it increases the severity of a collision should one occur.
On April 21, 2019 at approximately 10:30 a.m., a Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer initiated a traffic stop after a pick-up truck was observed travelling at a high rate of speed (in excess of 50 km/hr) over the posted 80 km/hr speed limit on Grey Road 23 in the Township of Southgate.
Gregory James RUTTAN, age 19, of Singhampton, was charged with stunt driving contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
On the same day at approximately 1:03 p.m., the officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 10 in the Municipality of Grey Highlands after it was observed travelling at an excessive speed while passing multiple vehicles at a time.
Hoi Fung CHAN, age 24, of Scarborough, was charged with stunt driving contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Each driver received a seven (7) day driver's licence suspension and the vehicles were impounded for seven (7) days.
Road safety is a priority for all. If you witness driving behaviours that are concerning, don't hesitate to call police.
