(PERTH EAST, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sebringville detachment responded to the report of a possible impaired driver south of Shakespeare shortly before 9:30 p.m. on April 26, 2019. A witness observed a car swerving in its lane and almost strike another motor vehicle traveling in the opposite direction of Perth Road 107 in the Township of Perth East.
OPP officers responded quickly and stopped the car in Shakespeare. Officers determined that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired. The female was arrested and transported to the Sebringville OPP detachment for further testing.
Shauna CLAYTON, 26-years-old, of the Township of Blandford-Blenheim was arrested and charged with;
Operation while impaired - alcohol
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on May 13, 2019 to answer the charges.
The dangers of driving while impaired are well known and pose a significant risk to public safety. The Perth County OPP is urging everyone to plan ahead and arrange for a designated driver or overnight accommodations to avoid a tragedy.
