(WEST PERTH, ON) - Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on May 27, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Perth detachment, observed a motor vehicle travelling on Perth Line 24 near the village of Staffa in the Municipality of West Perth. The vehicle was determined to be travelling at a rate of speed that exceeded the posted speed limit by 50 km/hr and was stopped by police.
Carly PIETT, 28-years-old, of Seaforth was charged with racing. Her driver's licence was seized and a driving suspension was imposed. The vehicle was towed and impounded, and she is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford at a later date to answer the charges.
The OPP wants to remind driver's that speeding reduces the amount of available time needed to avoid a collision and increases the severity of a collision once it does occur.
