(BLUEWATER, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) got an assist from a member of the public last week when a concerned citizen called in a traffic complaint of a driver that was driving erratically near Hensall.
On Sunday, June 9, 2019 at approximately 1:41 p.m. OPP officers received information about a sports car that was being driven in an erratic fashion northbound on London Road into Hensall.
Officers immediately started patrolling for the suspect vehicle and a few minutes later an officer located the suspect vehicle parked at a gas station in Hensall. While speaking with the driver the investigating officer had suspicions the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation - Over 80 and a search of the vehicle was conducted. Upon searching the vehicle officers located an unsealed bottle of liquor.
The driver was subsequently transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. Both of his samples provided to the Intoxilizer Technician were over the legal limit.
Roland RIEDMANN, 62 years of age, from Caledon has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus and Having Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle With Unsealed Container of Liquor. He was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 24, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. His vehicle was impounded and his licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days
