(GODERICH, ON) - Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of members of the Huron-Perth Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU) have charged a local man with several offences following an arrest earlier this week in Goderich.
Huron OPP members and members form the Huron-Perth CSCU had been conducting patrols on Monday, July 8, 2019 for the accused as he was wanted for breaking and entering into a Goderich storage unit business and for shoplifting electronics from another business.
During the course of their patrols at approximately 2:48 p.m. officers located the accused walking westbound on Nelson Street in Goderich. An officer with the CSCU approached the male, identified himself as an officer and informed the accused he was under arrest. At that point, the accused challenged the officer and actively resisted arrest when the officer attempted to take him into custody.
With the assistance of a back-up officer the accused was eventually taken into custody. A search incident to arrest revealed the accused to be in possession of a quantity of suspected Methamphetamine and Hydromorphone.
Barry CLARKE, 51 years of age, from Goderich has been charged with Resist a Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of Hydromorphone for the Purposes of Trafficking, Theft Under $5,000 and Break, Enter and Commit Indictable Offence. He has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 29, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
