(AMULREE, ON) - On October 28, 2019, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Perth County detachment, Perth East Fire Department and Perth County Paramedics (EMS) responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a cyclist on Perth Line 43, east of Amulree.
A motor vehicle travelling west on Line 43 attempted to pass a cyclist who was also travelling west on Line 43. The driver did not allow enough room to pass the cyclist and a collision occurred.
The cyclist was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Mark POWOROZNYK, 42-years-old, of Perth South was charged with failing to leave one metre while passing a bicycle. The driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice (PON).
The OPP wants to remind driver's that according to section 148(6) of the Highway Traffic Act, every person in charge of a motor vehicle who is overtaking a person travelling on a bicycle shall, as nearly as may be practicable, leave a distance of not less than one metre between the bicycle and the motor vehicle and shall maintain that distance until safely pass the bicycle.
