(MAITLAND, ON) - On Saturday November 2, 2019, members of the Leeds Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the scene of a three vehicles collision on County Road 15, south of Highway 401 near Maitland, Ontario.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., on November 2, 2019, officers from the OPP were following a vehicle westbound on Highway 401 as part of an investigation. The suspect vehicle collided with a marked OPP cruiser and fled the scene. A short time later, the suspect vehicle collided with the same OPP cruiser and a passenger vehicle. The two occupants of the passenger vehicle, the suspect and the officer were taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result Nathaniel LARSEN, aged 21 from Mississauga, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following:
Dangerous operation CC section 320.13(1)
Operation while impaired - exceeds the blood drug concentration CC section 320.14(1)(c)
Flight from Peace Officer CC section 320.17
Resist Peace Officer CC section 129(a)
Assault a Peace Officer with a weapon CC section 270.01(1)(a)
Possession of a Schedule I substance CDSA section 4(1)
Disobey sign HTA section 182(2)
Drive motor vehicle - No licence HTA section 32(1)
Use plate not in according with Act HTA section 12(1)(f)
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance CAIA section 2(1)(a)
The accused was being held for a bail hearing to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on November 3, 2019.
An OPP East Region Technical Collision Investigators assisted with the investigation. County Road 15 closed for approximately seven hours.
