(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On November 16, 2019 at approximately 12:50 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Mill Street East in Elora when they observed a motor vehicle travelling erratically at a high rate of speed.
The officer activated the emergency equipment however, the driver failed to stop and proceeded thru a red light and a stop sign. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed through a restaurant parking lot that was open and serving customers. The vehicle entered onto Wellington Road 7 and continued southbound at a high rate of speed. Due to public safety concerns, the officer discontinued following the vehicle.
A short while later another officer observed the same vehicle travelling on a closed road until it was forced to stop. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody without incident. Officers seized a partially full can of beer from the front center console.
Further investigation revealed that the driver was breaching the conditions of an undertaking and was suspended and prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.
Kristopher FINORA, 31-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Dangerous Driving, Flight from Peace Officer, Driving While Prohibited and Failing to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code, Drive While Under Suspension X3 contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
