(NIPISSING FIRST NATION, ON) - On May 1, 2020, at approximately 8:30 p.m., an officer from the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was patrolling on Highway 17 in Nipissing First Nation. The officer observed a vehicle weaving in its lane on the highway and conducted a traffic stop.
After speaking with the driver, the officer placed the driver under arrest for impaired driving. The driver was brought back to the North Bay OPP Detachment for testing.
As a result of the investigation, Yves OLIVIER, age 36, of West Nipissing, was charged with the following:
Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC) and
Operation While Impaired - Blood Drug Concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on July 7, 2020, in North Bay.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the drivers' licence was subject to a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS).
This incident marks 17 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay Detachment.
