(MIDDLESEX, ON) - On May 3, 2020 at 6:42 p.m. members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call from the public of a commercial motor vehicle, observed to have struck the wire barrier, located in the centre median of HWY 402 at Kerwood Rd. The suspect fled the area and was observed dragging wire and debris behind the vehicle, w/b on HWY 402 into Lambton County.
With help from the public, police were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle when they soon learned that the driver was impaired. He was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Petrolia OPP detachment for further tests.
As a result of an investigation police have charged Aaron GIBBINGS -age 29- of Plympton-Wyoming, ON with:
CC 320.14(1)(b) Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration
CC 320.14(1)(a) Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
CC 320.16(1) Failure to stop after accident
The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Sarnia court room on August 24, 2020 to speak to the charges.
The OPP would like to thank the outstanding members of the public who identified the high risks taken by this driver and did the right thing by contacting 911.
