(SOUTHGATE, ON) - On August 22, 2020 at 9:05 p.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a red pick-up truck with an attached trailer. The driver of the truck had lost control, hit the gravel shoulder and left the roadway, colliding with the ditch on Highway 6, near Southgate Road 12, in the Township of Southgate.
Grey County Emergency Medical Services and the Wellington North Fire Department assisted officers at the scene. The driver and a passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The driver was arrested for being impaired while operating a motor vehicle and was transported to Wellington OPP detachment in Teviotdale for a breath test. The results of the breath test were over twice the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
As a result of this investigation, Grey Bruce OPP have charged Austin CICCAGLIONE, 30 years-of-age, from Stoney Creek, ON with the following offences:
Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80, section 320.14(1)(b) CC
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and the involved vehicle was towed and will be impounded for seven days.
The accused has been released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on October 29, 2020.
