(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - A resident of Bayfield is facing charges of Impaired Operation and Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) following a crash north of Bayfield this past weekend.
At approximately 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2020 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were notified of a single motor crash that had occurred on Bluewater Highway near Bayfield River Road.
Upon arrival officers located a pickup truck in the east ditch with the front end crossing the fog line. Officers checked for the driver however he was not with the vehicle. Police began patrolling for the driver and not long after officers located the suspect driver walking nearby.
He was found to be staggering and showing several signs of impairment. The driver was initially detained then placed under arrest for Impaired Operation. He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. The samples were analyzed and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.
Jentje STEENBEEK, 32 years of age from Bayfield has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. He was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 28, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
