(CENTRAL HURON, ON) - An early morning traffic stop east of Clinton this morning has led to charges against a Novice driver from Huron County.
At approximately 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a vehicle travelling on Front Road near Huron Road without taillights. A traffic stop was initiated and while speaking with the driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver's breath.
A roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was promptly transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The novice driver provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be over the legal limit.
Caleb MARTIN, 19 years of age, from Huron East has been charged with Impaired Operation - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus and Novice Driver - BAC Above Zero. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October 19, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich.
Huron OPP would like to remind all novice drivers and young drivers (21 and under) regardless of licence class your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) must be zero.
