(NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS, ON) One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic stop on Highway 6.
On March 31, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol on Highway 6 in Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands. Police conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation.
Upon speaking with the driver, police were able to determine the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Douglas JENSEN, 45-years-old from MChigeeng First Nation has been charged with:
Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
Driving while under suspension two counts
Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
Drive motor vehicle, no plates
Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver
Novice driver B.A.C. above zero
Improper number plate light
Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle
Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Drive motor vehicle, no permit
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on April 23, 2024.
The driver received a 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
