On Friday April 12, 2024 during the afternoon hours a package was delivered to the front porch of a west-side residence. Within seven minutes of the delivery, the package was stolen and Owen Sound Police were called by the victim to investigate.
With the assistance of a residential security camera, police were able to identify a 39- year-old Owen Sound female as being the person responsible for the theft. Police conducted a check of the area and were able to locate and arrest the female, who still had the stolen package in her possession.
The stolen items were returned to the victim and the accused was charged with Theft and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in May.
Owen Sound Police have received reports of similar thefts of delivered packages in increasing numbers in what appears to be an emerging trend. Some tips that may assist in preventing thefts in this manner include installing visible and or covert cameras, using a front porch lock box, requesting that packages require a signature at delivery and/or having packages delivered to the workplace if possible.
