(SUDBURY, ON) A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop for speeding.
On May 4, 2024, shortly before 12:00 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.
A vehicle was stopped for traveling over 125 kilometres an hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Jordan ASSINEWE, 33 years-of-age, from Sudbury, was charged with:
Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Speeding 1 49 km/h over posted limit
Driver fail to surrender licence
The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 5, 2024, in Sudbury.
The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
