(BRANT, ON) On June 20, 2024, at approximately 9:44 p.m., a Brant County OPP officer on general patrol observed a black pickup truck traveling northbound on Brant Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was recorded traveling at 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, determining that there was alcohol in the drivers system. The officer then proceeded with an Approved Screening Device test, which the driver failed.
The driver, identified as Ryan VAN WIEREN, a 37-year-old from St. George, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:
Operation While Impaired 80 plus
Dangerous Operation
Stunt Driving Excessive Speed
Speeding 165 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone
Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor: Liquor Licence and Control Act.
VAN WIEREN was released with a court date set for Friday, July 5, 2024, at 9:00 AM at 44 Queen Street in Brantford. His drivers license was suspended for stunt driving, and he received a 90-day Administrative Drivers License Suspension (ADLS). Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
