(CENTRAL HURON, ON) Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Central Huron resident with several offences following a traffic stop south of Goderich on June 24th, 2024.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. on Monday, June 24th, a Huron County OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling on Bluewater Highway and conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act violation. In speaking to the driver, the officer believed the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving and demanded a breath sample. The driver provided a roadside breath sample, which resulted in a failure. The driver was then arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton for further breath tests.
The accused then refused to provide the further required breath samples once at detachment.
James BROOME, 65 years-of-age from Central Huron has been charged with:
Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand.
The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused drivers licence was suspended for 90 days.
The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for July 29th at the Ontario Court of Justice Goderich.
