(KAPUSKASING, ON) Two drivers were arrested for impaired on separate traffic stops in Kapuskasing this past weekend.
On July 19, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Brunelle Road North in Kapuskasing.
Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Maxime BROUSSEAU, 36 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with operation while impaired drugs.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
On July 20, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Brunelle Road North in Kapuskasing.
Upon speaking with the driver, police determined that they had been consuming an intoxicating substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing. The driver was also found to be breaching a previous release order, and a drivers licence condition to have an ignition interlock device.
As a result of the investigation, James YAKOWENKO, 33 years of age of Kapuskasing, was charged with:
· Operation while impaired drugs
· Operation while prohibited
· Drive motor vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock device
· Fail to comply with release order (two counts)
· Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
· Use plates not authorized for vehicle
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on September 9, 2024, in Kapuskasing. The accused was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
