(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) Two individuals have been charged after an abandoned vehicle investigation in Middlesex Centre.
On August 4, 2024, at 5:45 a.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were dispatched to Longwoods Road at Carriage Road in Middlesex Centre, for the report of an abandoned vehicle that left the roadway and entered the ditch.
Police patrolled the area and located two individuals walking from the scene.
It was determined the driver was impaired at which time they were placed under arrest and transported to the Oxford County OPP detachment for further testing from a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
As a result, John IRELAND, a 50-year-old of London, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Highway Traffic Act with:
· Operation while impaired drugs
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
· Flight from peace officer
· Failure to comply with undertaking
· Poss of a Schedule I Substance Methamphetamine
· Driving while under suspension
· Fail to remain
The accused was held for bail.
The passenger, a 44-year-old of London, was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with Poss of a Schedule I Substance Methamphetamine, has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on September 27, 2024.
