(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP., ON) A 27-year-old man has been located deceased after he failed to surface while swimming in Lake Clear, in Bonnechere Valley Township.
The man had been swimming and jumping off rocks into the water on Sunday morning, September 15, 2024, with several other people when he disappeared beneath the surface. The 9-1-1 call came in to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) around 9:30 a.m.
OPP and County of Renfrew Paramedic Service both arrived at the scene a short time later, with boats to aid in the search. Firefighters and paramedics also utilized a local individuals boat in the search. Members of the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department used their Remote Piloted Aerial System (drone) to scan the water from above.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was called to the scene and located the males body shortly before 7:00 p.m.
A post mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
The OPP has ensured that Victim Services is engaged to support the victims family.
