(DRYDEN, ON) Two local residents are facing drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from the Northwest Region Emergency Response Team, Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, and Treaty Three Police Service.
On October 8, 2024, just after 7:00 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 502, Unorganized Territory, District of Kenora. The investigation resulted in the arrest of two Dryden residents and the seizure of suspected illicit drugs, including cocaine, crack cocaine as well as further evidence of drug trafficking.
As a result of the investigation, Richard SANDERSON, 58-years-old, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code with the following offences:
· Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
· Failure to comply with release order
Additionally, Elisha THOMPSON, 35-years-old, has been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code with the following offences:
· Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
· Obstruct peace officer
The accused individuals have been held remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 11, 2024.
