(BOBS LAKE, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has now laid charges in connection with a fatal boating collision on the Buck Bay area of Bobs Lake.
Three people died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision on the evening of May 18, 2024. Additionally, three individuals were injured.
On October 29, 2024, as a result of that investigation, the OPP arrested and charged Matthew SPLINTER, age 44 of South Frontenac Township, with the following Criminal Code offences:
Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, sec. 320.13(3) – three counts
Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, sec. 320.13(2) – three counts.
Impaired operation causing death, sec. 320.14(3) – three counts
Impaired operation causing bodily harm, sec. 320.14(2) – three counts
The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on October 30, 2024.
The investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, involved support from frontline officers, Collision Reconstructionists, as well as members of multiple OPP Crime Units, the Technical Collision Investigation Team, and Forensic Identification Services.
