(Kingston, ON) An individual driving a car along the 401 Highway in Kingston sped away from an officer attempting to complete a traffic stop, then crashed exiting the highway.
A Frontenac OPP officer spotted a silver BMW sedan traveling on the 401 Highway in Kingston, just after 11:30 on November 6, 2024, and attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic offence. The individual did not stop the vehicle and accelerated away at increasing speeds. The officer did not continue to follow the vehicle, for public safety reasons.
The vehicle driver exited at the Sir John A. MacDonald ramp, with excessive speed and rolled several times, ending up in the ditch. Officers were called to the collision by a member of the public, where they arrested the driver. Minor injuries to the driver resulted in being transported to the hospital for cuts and lacerations. The vehicle was severely damaged as a result of the collision.
The off-ramp was closed for two hours to complete the investigation.
Shayden Sherbonneau-Knickle, a 19-year-old male from Kingston, was charged with:
Dangerous Operation of a conveyance.
Flight from Peace Officer.
Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code.
Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
Careless Driving.
Driving a motor vehicle while under Suspension.
Use Plate not Authorized for vehicle.
The individual remained in custody and was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice, in Kingston on November 7, 2024.
