(PRESCOTT, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit has laid numerous charges against a Prescott resident after seizing a large number of firearms.
An investigation began in Fall 2024, resulting the execution of search warrants on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at a residence on Wood Street in Prescott and a storage locker in Johnstown. Officers recovered over half a dozen stolen firearms, ammunition, a stolen utility trailer a stolen ATV, stolen snowblowers and stolen fishing gear. They also seized break-in tools. One person was arrested at the residence.
Matthew BEATON, age 40, has been charged with:
Unauthorized possession of a firearm six counts
Possession of a firearm obtained by crime six counts
Careless storage of a firearm
Breach of firearm regulation-store firearm six counts
Possession of property obtained by crime-under $5000 10 counts
Possession of break-in instruments
The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on December 4, 2024.
