(TEMAGAMI, ON) One person was charged with impaired driving as a result of a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) Program.
On January 3, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., members of the Temagami Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a RIDE spot-check on Highway 64 in Temagami.
During the program, police administered Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) tests and one driver failed. They were arrested and transported to the Temiskaming OPP Detachment for further testing.
Richard GUAY, 30 years-of-age of Verner Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC), the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA) with:
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
The accused received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear before the Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on January 28, 2025.
Drivers are reminded that the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law allows officers with an approved screening device to demand a roadside breath sample from any lawfully stopped driver without reasonable suspicion of impairment.
