(KAPUSKASING, ON) The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals in connection with an armed robbery in Kapuskasing.
On March 6, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the James Bay OPP responded to a report of an armed robbery at a gas station on Government Road East. The caller reported that a male dressed in a black jacket with the hood over his head, ski mask, blue-lens ski goggles, black pants, and black winter boots walked into the store holding what appeared to be a small gun, demanding that the employee empty the cash register. The suspect fled before police arrived.
Through investigation, police linked the robbery to a separate theft at a business on Cain Avenue earlier that same day.
On March 25, 2025, officers arrested two individuals:
Claude CHALIFOUX, 37 years of age from Kapuskasing, was arrested at a business on Riverside Drive, and charged with:
Robbery with a weapon
Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose
Carrying a concealed weapon
Disguise with intent
Theft under $5000 Shoplifting
Keven LAVIGNE-ROUSSEAU, 36 years of age from Kapuskasing, was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at a residence on OBrien Avenue, with assistance from the Northeast OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT). This accused was charged with:
Robbery with a weapon
Theft under $5000 Shoplifting
Fail to comply with probation order
During the search, police seized evidence linked to the robbery, including a black balaclava, gloves, sunglasses, a reusable bag, a toy cap gun, a winter coat, and boots.
Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on March 26, 2025.
