(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) -On Sunday April 20, 2025, a member from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a prohibited driver while conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 401.
At approximately 10:45 am, while observing eastbound traffic, an officer was alerted by the Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) that the plate attached to the rear of a silver 4 door Audi sedan that had just driven past the police cruiser was expired and had a status of missing. The officer followed the vehicle as it exited the highway on the Brighton off ramp and entered the nearby gas bar. Upon investigation it was found that the driver had multiple driving prohibitions. As a result, Ilkka KOSKI (age 66) of Niagara Falls Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
Driving while under suspension (two counts)
Use plate not authorized for vehicle
Further investigation showed that the individual had a warrant for their arrest from an incident that had previously occurred in the Toronto area.
Once the accused was released by the OPP with conditions to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in May 2025, the individual was rearrested by members of the Toronto Police Service and escorted back to their area.
