(KAPUSKASING, ON) A Kapuskasing resident is facing impaired driving and multiple off-road vehicle-related charges after being stopped while riding an ATV without a helmet.
On Saturday, April 19, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing for a helmet violation. During the stop, officers determined that the driver had consumed alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.
As a result, Joseph CARON 25 years-of-age from Kapuskasing, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired alcohol
· Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Driver fail to wear proper helmet
· Driver fail to surrender licence
· Drive off-road vehicle no permit
· Drive off-road vehicle no insurance
· Drive off-road vehicle no number plate
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 2, 2025, in Kapuskasing. Additionally, they received a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS), and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
