(BONNECHERE VALLEY TWP, ON) A traffic stop in Bonnechere Valley Township (BVT) has resulted in several serious charges for a local resident.
On April 23, 2025, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 41. Police seized a loaded firearm, ammunition, alcohol and cannabis from the vehicle. The driver was taken to the detachment for testing.
As a result of this investigation 40-year-old William OBRIEN of BVT has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC), Cannabis Control Act (CCA), Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Liquor Licence and Control Act (LLCA) offences:
Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration 80mg plus
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
Careless storage of a firearm
Drive vehicle with cannabis in open baggage
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Drive motor vehicle no licence
The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on May 20, 2025.
