(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a motorist with stunt driving and impaired operation.
On January 8, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Brighton when they observed a passenger vehicle travelling at 170 km/h.
The vehicle was stopped, and after speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
MD Tawhidul JOY, 24-years-old, from Scarborough, has been charged with:
Operation while impaired alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Drive motor vehicle perform stunt excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in February 2026. A 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 14-day vehicle impound were also imposed.
