(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to take impaired drivers off area roads through ongoing enforcement and community‑reported concerns.

Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on OPP‑patrolled highways. Officers across the municipality remain committed to detecting and removing drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.



Below are recent enforcement results from ongoing investigations and traffic‑related incidents.

February 3, 2026 – Highway 35, Fenelon Township

At approximately 11:33 p.m., an officer conducting speed enforcement initiated a traffic stop on Highway 35. Through investigation, the driver was found to be impaired and charged.

Thomas HACHIE, 28, of Coboconk

• Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit

• Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed

• Fail to surrender insurance card

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Dirty plate

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

February 4, 2026 – Highway 7 at Acrevale Road, Emily Township

At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers responded to a two‑vehicle collision. No injuries were reported. Through investigation, one driver was charged.

Kimberly ALLISON, 50, of Omemee

• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

February 6, 2026 – Thurstonia Road, Verulam Township

At approximately 6:47 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision where the driver had failed to remain. A wellness check was later conducted at the registered owner’s residence. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Bradley STEVENSON, 34, of Sturgeon Point

• Driving while under suspension

• Fail to remain

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

• Dangerous operation

February 9, 2026 – Lindsay Street, Fenelon Falls

At approximately 10:22 a.m., officers received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located and, through investigation, the driver was charged.

Brendan VANHALTEREN, 28, of Fenelon Falls

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driving while under suspension

• Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

• Fail to surrender insurance card

• Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

February 9, 2026 – Highway 7 near Slanted Road

At approximately 8:44 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. The driver was uninjured. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Jason LAURIN, 36, of Cannington

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Fail to notify change of address – licence

February 10, 2026 – Colborne Street near Highway 7, Lindsay

At approximately 4:06 p.m., officers received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Nathan KYOSHIK, 35, of Courtice

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

February 10, 2026 – Highway 7 near Taylors Road, Mariposa Township

At approximately 11:09 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Cal UZZELL, 26, of Oakwood

• Drive with improper headlight

• Driver fail to surrender licence

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

February 14, 2026 – Frank Hill Road, Emily Township

At approximately 6:51 p.m., officers responded to a two‑vehicle collision. Through investigation, one driver was charged.

David CHESSAQUAY, 34, of Pontypool

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

February 21, 2026 – Glenarm Road near Simcoe Street

At approximately 8:02 p.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. The driver was uninjured. Through investigation, impaired‑driving charges were laid.

60‑year‑old male from Courtice

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

February 21, 2026 – Simcoe Street

At approximately 9:57 p.m., a driver was observed turning around prior to entering a RIDE program. A traffic stop was conducted, and through investigation, the driver was charged.

Nathan RENNIE, 23, of Sunderland

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

• Consuming liquor in unauthorized place

February 21, 2026 – Kenstone Beach Road, Verulam Township

At approximately 10:29 a.m., officers attended a single‑vehicle collision. Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Spencer SMITH, 29, of Bobcaygeon

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

• Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration

• Having care or control of motor vehicle with liquor readily available

• Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions

• Novice driver – presence of drug

Public Reminder

The OPP reminds motorists:

• Never drive impaired – plan a safe ride home.

• Call 9‑1‑1 if you suspect an impaired driver.

• Impaired driving includes alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both.

All drivers charged with impaired‑driving offences face a seven‑day vehicle impoundment, a 90‑day driver’s licence suspension, and a future court date.
