(ELK LAKE, ON) A single vehicle collision in James Township has resulted in impaired driving charges.
On Saturday, February 28, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Englehart and Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Highway 560 and Highway 65 in James Township, Elk Lake.
Police were advised that a vehicle had become stuck in a snowbank. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and its occupants and initiated an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of the driver. The driver was transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Joseph AUBERTIN, 43 years old, of Elk Lake, has been charged with:
Operation while impaired alcohol
Operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Driving while under suspension
Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
Drive motor vehicle no currently validated permit
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on March 31, 2026.
In addition, the drivers licence was suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
